“Old Hollow” tabbed for publication by Radiant Crown Publishing February 23, 2017

Posted by ambrosestolliker in News, Novella.

Greetings, good reader! I just wanted to announce that my novella, Old Hollow, has been selected for publication by Radiant Crown Publishing.

The story will be published both as an eBook and, in a first for this author, as an audio book. I couldn’t be more excited about Old Hollow finding a home with Radiant Crown, and I’d like to thank its founder and publisher, Olivia Raymond, for taking the time to read my story.

For those who may be wondering, Old Hollow is a horror story set during the waning days of the Civil War.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the story:

Spring, 1865. After five years of bloody civil war, the Union Army of the Potomac has the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia on the run. Union Cavalry Commander Philip Sheridan has loosed his scouts into the Virginia countryside in search of an opportunity to intercept and destroy Gen. Robert E. Lee’s Rebel army and bring the war to an end.

One of those scouts is Captain Benjamin Lawson, a man haunted by the scenes of senseless slaughter he has endured and the memory of the men he has lost at places like Bull Run, Antietam and Gettysburg. The burden of command weighs heavily upon him, and all he wants is to see his men survive the final days and weeks of this terrible conflict.

The fortunes of war, however, have another fate in store for Lawson and his men, Sergeant Jordy Lightfoot and Corporal Emil Boyd. On a dark, rainy night, Lawson’s party of scouts stumbles into a large group of Rebel cavalry, and all Hell breaks loose. Two of his men are killed outright, and Lawson, Lightfoot and Boyd just barely manage to escape into a thick forest.

There, Lawson discovers that the young corporal has been gravely wounded. Determined not to lose yet another man under his command, Lawson heads for a small, out-of-the-way town called Old Hollow in the hopes of finding a doctor who can help the dying boy. What he finds there in Old Hollow, however, is something more sinister, more terrifying, than anything he has ever witnessed on the battlefield.

Soon, he and his men are once more in a fight for their lives against a twisted preacher who, together with his sect of fanatical followers, have struck a diabolical covenant with an ancient, unspeakable evil.

As anyone who has read my stories Reckoning in Spotsylvania or Blue Belly Bayou knows, the Civil War holds a special place in my heart. It’s a fascinating period of American history that helped shape who we are as Americans today, and, by its very nature, is replete with opportunities for evocative and haunting storytelling.

In the coming weeks and months, I’ll be sure to share more details around when and where Old Hollow will be available. Meantime, I’m looking forward to working with the editors at Radiant Crown Publishing on making the story as gripping and suspenseful as possible.
